Bramshaw Ward

So after my first night on the ward, I had already grown to the conclusion that although the docs and nurses are super lovely, it was just a rollercoaster of pain that I was now on! Because it was decided I was to be on this heparin infusion leading up to the op on Friday, this also meant I was to have hourly blood tests until my blood was stabilised! And these beauties didn't half mess with veins!!

For one who does not like needles, this was a hard task!! The majority of the nurses and docs who came in my room to take the blood were great at it, however then my veins decided to fail! The poor nurse took the brunt of my pain and she decided to give up at 7.30am after trying four different sites, all failing to bleed! So I knew I was going to be in for a long couple days still! Met the docs on the ward, Chris who was an Austin Powers look a like, Sophie who put my first canula in, and another F1 who I shall not name, but hurt like hell putting my second canula in my other arm!

So every time my door opened, and a staff member came in with their little white dish, yellow sharps box and a sorrowful look on their face, I knew I was in for another 'short sharp scratch' episode! It turned into quite a joke between the staff and myself in the end, as they felt my pain!! Attached to the infusion one side of the bed and antibiotics drip the other side, I couldn't exactly move far!! And by thurs night Id had enough of the needle stabbings!

Thursday night and I was being told there was a slight issue with one my blood readings and the op tomorrow may not go ahead, it'd be down to my surgeon and anaesthetist whether they were happy to take me in! So along came the long night, waiting to find out whether the last two days have been complete waste and I was going to have to postpone until next week!
