Cryopreservation Laparoscopic oophorectomy

11/20/2015

Operation day.... Today I have one of my ovaries removed, chopped up and frozen! In the hope that if chemo and radiotherapy knock off my fertility, that these tissue samples can then be re-implanted back into me, to try to re-stimulate everything. At the minute, it's my only chance of preserving my fertility before chemo next week. First thing in the morning Hennie, my surgeon turns up along with the anesthetist to discuss the surgery! So finally I have an answer that it's going ahead at 10 am! Brilliant, I'll be back on the ward by lunch time ready for lunch!!

Oh how wrong I was.... All day nil by mouth, fantasizing about Nandos, and finally I'm walking down to the theatre at 3pm! Lying on the bed in the anesthetic room and in his words, he injects me with 'gin and tonic' after all it's Friday and we deserve a party! The mask is put over my mouth and nose, and im under!

I remember coming around, shaking in pain and bit of shock, and the recovery nurse sat next to me. Unbeknown to me at this point, my blood pressure had completely plummeted when they tried bringing me around. But eventually I was taken back Up to the ward where my mum and brother were waiting to see me. And it was so good to see them!

I could barely move, with puncture holes and swollen up across my stomach, making me look like I was pregnant! And although I was back on the antibiotic drip, I had no more blood tests coming either! So I had a much better nights sleep too!
